About The Meditatio Centre

At the heart of everything we offer is the practice of meditation.

The Meditatio Centre is part of The World Community for Christian Meditation.  It was inspired by the vision of John Main, a Benedictine monk, to teach meditation as a way to  restore the contemplative dimension of Christianity. Laurence Freeman OSB, his spiritual successor, formally founded WCCM in 1991 and has worked tirelessly to introduce this form of meditation in over 60 countries.

The Meditatio Centre is a vibrant and welcoming place and a true oasis in the hub bub of a busy city. It is open to people from all walks of life, from any religious, spiritual or secular tradition. It has regular meditation sessions and teaching on the practice and hosts an annual programme of  events to explore the deeper dimensions of life.  Our speakers look at the contemplative aspects of  modern living: science, the arts, business, the environment, interfaith and the mystical core of Christianity. Workshops enliven the space –  yoga, movement, poetry, dance – local artists are also invited to exhibit their work.

Meditatio as the outreach of the Community shares the fruits of meditation with the wider world and directs the wisdom of meditation towards the crises of our time. Its programs engage the areas of education, business, leadership, interfaith, health, addiction, mental health and other social justice issues.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Meditatio Centre  would not be able to function without our team of wonderful volunteers. We are always looking for more help to run our events and exhibitions -and with general admin in the office too, Please contact us to find out more.

How we got Started

Meditatio as the outreach of The World Community for Christian Meditation was launched in 2010 to spread the benefits of meditation to the secular world and society at large through a variety of programs.  The Meditatio Centre came into being in 2013 as a space where the Meditatio programs could be developed and offered to the public.  We were able to convert our old office space into the Centre.  Six months of feverish activity transformed a dull office into a welcoming space – uncovering the lovely brick work and rose window in the process.   It was an exciting time – painting, choosing and creating a fresh new look for our Programme of Events.  The Meditatio Centre has grown into a vibrant community where thousands of people come each year to meditate and share in the vision of social transformation.
